Achilles athletes from across the country raced and placed in the 125th running of the Boston Marathon held on October 11, 2021. Retired U.S. Marine Sergeant Zach Stinson, Achilles Freedom Team, placed first in the Men’s Handcycle division while Wendy Larsen, Achilles Houston, placed first in the Women’s Handcycle division.

Though the pandemic may have cancelled many endurance events last year, Achilles Utah found a creative way to keep members engaged. They spent the summer training for a challenge of their own. The team is in the midst of their inaugural Rise, Ride & Run, a 365-mile, five-day tandem bike ride from Salt Lake City to the St George Marathon on October 2. Passing the Baton of Resilience and Inclusion 650-Miles up the East Coast

The pandemic kept people apart. The Achilles Resilience Relay brought people back together. Athletes with disabilities and their guides completed a 650-mile relay running, riding and walking from Charlotte, NC, to New York, NY, from June 26 to July 10. With each baton pass, it personified overcoming adversity and shed light on the 26% of Americans living with a disability.

The Achilles International chapters in Connecticut, Nashville, and New Jersey are challenging you to complete your best 5K, 5-miler or half marathon as part of the Keep It Moving Challenge sponsored by U-Haul. From September 17 through 19 you can run or walk the distance of your choosing virtually or join the chapters for an in-person Hope & Possibility® race. Proceeds benefit Achilles. All registrants based in the U.S. will receive a t-shirt, cowbell medal and coaster.
