Effective as of April 18th 2022, below are the current health guidelines for all NYC chapter workouts.
Achilles Athletes Shine on Podium at 2022 Boston Marathon
Forty-seven Achilles athletes from across the globe shined at the 126th Boston Marathon held on Monday, April 18, 2022. Several athletes came out on top and placed in their respective divisions.
Achilles International’s Citi Bike® Adaptive Cycling Program to Expand to Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx
Achilles International is proud to partner with the Citi Bike® team in expanding our Adaptive Cycling Program in New York City. In addition to weekly adaptive cycling sessions in Central Park, we will now offer the program for people with disabilities in three new locations: Williamsbridge Oval, the Bronx; Prospect Park, Brooklyn and Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens starting on May 14.

Achilles Athletes Take the Podium at Boston Marathon
Achilles athletes from across the country raced and placed in the 125th running of the Boston Marathon held on October 11, 2021. Retired U.S. Marine Sergeant Zach Stinson, Achilles Freedom Team, placed first in the Men’s Handcycle division while Wendy Larsen, Achilles Houston, placed first in the Women’s Handcycle division.

Achilles International is pleased to announce that the Achilles Freedom Team will once again compete in the Detroit Free Press Marathon thanks to the continued generosity and support of GM and Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers From protecting and serving on the frontlines, to now racing across the start line, 19 wounded veterans will have the opportunity to participate in various celebrations of marathon weekend.
Donor Spotlight: Achilles Love at First Sight and Guide
We congratulate longtime Achilles volunteer guides Brianna Nielsen and Jeffrey Gelband on their wedding this past August and thank them for their generosity. In lieu of a registry, the couple asked their wedding guests to donate to Achilles to help us transform the lives of athletes living with a disability.
Achilles International and Google Partner on Project Guideline
At Achilles International, we know the transformative power a guide can have on an athlete living with a disability. Now, we are working to uncover the power of a guideline. We are pleased to announce our partnership with Google on Project Guideline. The early stage technology leverages on-device machine learning to allow persons who are blind or living with low vision to use a mobile phone, headphones, and a guideline painted on the ground to independently walk and run for exercise.
Achilles Utah on a 365-Mile, Five-Day Tandem Bike Ride to St. George Marathon
Though the pandemic may have cancelled many endurance events last year, Achilles Utah found a creative way to keep members engaged. They spent the summer training for a challenge of their own. The team is in the midst of their inaugural Rise, Ride & Run, a 365-mile, five-day tandem bike ride from Salt Lake City to the St George Marathon on October 2. Hear from some members of the team below and support the ride.
Donor Spotlight: The Moody Endowment
We are just under two months away until the 2021 TCS NYC Marathon, one of the biggest events of the “Achilles Marathon Tour” season. In 2019, more than 245 Achilles athletes with disabilities participated. Thanks to the generosity, commitment and support of The Moody Endowment, hundreds more will be able to cross the finish line this year and beyond.

Achilles welcomed Mel Robbins, a renowned motivational speaker, CNN commentator and author to lead a virtual pep talk before the 19th annual Hope and Possibility race in July. During her virtual pep talk, Mel answered questions submitted by the Achilles community and shared strategies for overcoming obstacles, whether on race day or in life, to reach your goals.
